More Proof That Podcasting Can Pay

This isn't specific to puppetry, but it does provide more proof that there is real money in video podcasting if you have a little talent and do a lot of hard work...Kent Nichols and Douglas Sarine - the creators of Ask A Ninja - have signed a deal with blog advertising powerhouse Federated Media worth reportedly $300,000 up front plus 60% of any future advertising revenue from their site. This comes on the heels of news that Rocketboom made almost $250,000 last year. Not too shabby for a couple of shows that are shot in their respective creators' apartments with relatively low-end video cameras.

Ask A Ninja and Rocketboom were two of the first hugely popular podcasts and there have already been a stampede of imitators trying to emulate them with limited success. Of course the thing that makes both these shows special is that a) they're pretty good and b) when they came out they didn't try to copy what had already been done. They were something new. Something fresh. Something different. They're not "mainstream" but they have carved out nice niches for themselves.

But then you already knew that, didn't you?
