I've written before about Mitchell Kriegman's patented Shadowmation system (see previous post) that combines Bunraku-style puppetry with digital sets in real-time. Google recently launched a new patent search feature and I decided to test drive it by looking up the U.S. patent for Shadowmation. It's a fairly dry and technical read, but interesting stuff.
