Scottish Falsetto Sock Puppet Theatre is Fantastic Fun

Scottish Falsetto Sock Puppet Theatre creates madcap puppet fun two socks at a time.

Scottish Falsetto Sock Puppet Theatre might not be top-notch puppetry on a purely technical level, but you'd be hard-pressed to find a funnier, more consistently imaginative (or prolific) series of puppet videos out there. Created by Kev F Sutherland, the videos have a decidedly Scottish/British sensibility to them and frequently send-up pop culture icons from across the pond like Doctor Who and Torchwood. I also really liked the "I'm A Mac / I'm A PC" ad spoof, The Facebook Song and their apparently famous Halloween video.

Kev's created a mind-boggling 240+ videos for the web since 2006; a playlist of his best work is available on YouTube. You can waste a couple hours watching the mapcap fun of Scottish Falsetto Sock Puppet Theatre and you won't regret a single moment of it.

Tuesday Morning Inspiration: A Visit to Roro Art

RoRo Art makes all kinds of sock-related awesomeness, including sock puppets.

RoRo Art - a previous source of inspiration on PuppetVision - was recently featured on Steven and Chris, a popular daytime talk show here in Canada. In the segment (it kicks in at the 23 minute mark in the video), the show visited the studio of RoRo's proprietor Robin Polfus so she could demonstrate how she makes sock monkeys.

Robin is one of the world's best sock monkey makers and makes all kinds of sock-related things, including sock monkeys, sock T-shirts, sock puppets and custom makes any kind of sock animal you her customers can imagine. She's also a really good puppeteer too, so you know she's good people.

The Hurgussen Flurbert Experiment

This YouTube puppet video from Luke Daab is an experiment, albeit one with some snazzy-looking editing. It features Luke's handmade puppet named Hurgussen Flurbert.

If Socks Could Talk

A new series of ads for Lamisil AT Gel features talking these socks.

Seen those new ads for Lamisil gel featuring talking socks on TV in Canada and the U.S. recently? Neither have I, but I'm told they're airing regularly and they can be watched on the web at the preceding link. They're kind of clever, but then again people have being doing the talking-Argyle-sock-with-a-fake-Scottish-burr shtick for ages.

Ask A Vampire

Ask A Vampire is a show hosted by a sock puppet named Toothy on YouTube, MySpace and a few other video sites. Now there are hundreds (thousands?) of sock puppet videos on YouTube and parodying Ask A Ninja isn't exactly a new idea either, but Ask A Vampire has some real promise. It seems to be really making an effort to be clever and inventive and stand out from the crowd a bit. The show has been getting better and better with each episode and it's really starting to grow on me.

So far three episodes are available:

It will be interesting to see if this show keeps going and how it develops. Consider it one to watch.

The Cheap Show

Sock puppets go out to sea in the latest episode of The Cheap Show.

The Cheap Show is a podcast and a TV series that airs on Plum TV in several U.S. markets. Yet another example of animation folks experimenting with puppets, the show was created by the team behind Nickelodeon's Maggie and the Ferocious Beast and revolves around the adventures of sock puppets named Dunkin Biscotti and Jigsy Riggs. The show is very fast-paced and I love how colourful and (deliberately) cheap it looks. The latest episode just appeared online today, a Jaws parody called The Fishing Show.
