"Sour" Hand Shadow Video

Japanese music video by Sour
Yet another cool puppet video from the land of the rising sun.

I seem to be discovering a lot of Japanese stuff lately for no reason other than Japan is a really, really creative place. The latest is this video for a Japanese band called Sour. The music doesn't do much for me, but it's a very creative use of hand shadows.

Terrific Chinese Hand Shadows

Chinese Hand Shadow puppetry
A great example of hand shadow puppetry, recorded in China earlier this year.

This is a short clip of a Chinese puppeteer performing some great hand shadows. Take a look, it's some amazingly fluid work.

More Great Hand Shadows Down Under

Hand shadow performance seems to be undergoing something of a renaissance in Australia thanks to performing artists like Sean Kenan (pictured) and Raymond Crowe.

Following up on that amazing video of hand shadow of Raymond Crowe that took the world (or at least YouTube) by storm recently, The Sydney Morning Herald recently ran an interview with Australia's most famous "Unusualist". What's that? You want even more Australian hand shadow puppetry? Well, then go check out this video by fellow Aussie Sean Kenan.

Incredible Hand Shadow Performance

Hand shadow performance
A truly stunning hand shadow performance can be seen on the video sharing site MetaCafe.

This has got to be the most incredible example of hand shadows that I have ever seen (if the lip sync appears off, it's just because of the video encoding and not the performer). Does anybody know who did this?

27/08/07 Update: I must have been tired when I originally posted this because the video (very briefly) indicates that this is the work of Raymond Crowe. Thanks to everybody who wrote in!

Amazing Commercial Made With Hand Shadows

VW Hand Shadow Commercial
This stunning VW commercial was created with hand shadows.

Volkswagon has a very neat looking commercial that was made with hand shadows. Not an entirely new idea (I can't help wondering if they were inspired by this other hand shadow commercial), but the design of this ad is wonderfully complex and beautifully executed.

If you want to learn to make hand shadows of your own, check out the free ebook Hand Shadows To Be Thrown Upon The Wall, which I mentioned here last year.

Star Wars with Hands

Who needs special effects when you can do Star Wars with a few pairs of hands?

Just as the title suggests, Star Wars as performed by hands. No idea who did this, but it looks kind of old.
