Sesame Street Explains the Madoff Scandal

Ernie and Cookie Monster explain what a Ponzi Scheme is with a little help from The Jimmy Kimmel Show.

Last week Jimmy Kimmel ran a hilarious segment that remixed clips from Sesame Street so Ernie and Cookie Monster could explain the Bernie Madoff Ponzi Scheme. I wonder, does this mean that the YouTube Muppet Mashup phenomenon has officially gone mainstream?

Do The Right Thing with Fisher-Price Toys

Big Bird confronts Mr. Hooper in a Do The Right Thing/Sesame Street mash-up made using Fisher-Price toys.

When I was really young there were two things that were really popular in my house - Sesame Street and Fisher Price toys. Brent Pike-Nurse and friends mashed them up together last year to create a parody of Do The Right Thing with Fisher-Price Sesame Street toys. The film contains some adult language (it is spoofing Do The Right Thing after all), but it's pretty funny with a lot of attention to detail.

My favourite moment in this comes when Ernie tosses Oscar in his trash can through the window of Hooper's Store to start the climactic riot scene. Brilliant!

Pulp Muppets

Someone has mashed up Pulp Fiction and Muppet action figures to create Pulp Muppets.

What do you get when you cross Jim Henson and Quentin Tarantino? A fan mash-up called Pulp Muppets from Toronto's 416 Film. Not technically puppetry perhaps, but you can't help being impressed by the work that must have gone in to this.

Dr. Cooper: A Trippy Puppet Remix

Two filmmakers from Boston re-mixed a classic Canadian anti-drug TV special in to a very trippy experimental film.

Dr. Cooper is a trippy remix of an old Canadian anti-drug TV special produced by Noreen Young Productions for TVOntario. Filmmakers Jean-Paul Bouchard and Joe Kowalski stumbled across the original show at the Boston Public Library and re-mixed it in to a stream-of-consciousness experimental film. If the puppets look familiar it's because Noreen's distinctive brand of puppetry was featured in a string of popular TVOntario puppet shows in the 1970s and 1980s including Read-A-Long and Today's Special.

One word of caution; there are a couple of quick shots of animals in this film that are fairly graphic and mildly NSFW. If you or your employer (if you're at work) are easily disturbed or offended don't watch it.

Machinima mash-up: The Internet is for Porn

Someone has made The Internet is for Porn, a hilarious mash-up of Avenue Q and World of Warcraft. In case you haven't seen the show (and really, you have to!) the song is from the Broadway cast recording of Avenue Q and sung by puppeteers Stephanie D'Abruzzo and Rick Lyon. As someone over at machinima.com already pointed out, amazingly the song works almost as well with WoW characters as it does with cute little puppets.

No nudity in the video or anything like that, but it is mildly NSFW.
